Last Thursday poet, City Lights Books founder, and Beat generation patriarch Lawrence Ferlinghetti sat down with KCRW Bookworm‘s Michael Silverblatt to discuss his upcoming book, Time of Useful Consciousness, published by New Directions on September 18. The 93 year old chats about his influences, his putative placement among the Beats, and the travels he took down the Mississippi to inform his new work, which he describes as “a fragmented recording of the American stream of consciousness, rather than just the American consciousness.” A veritable echo chamber of American voices we look forward to reading.
